MurekateteIn a Symposium co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Rwanda and the Department of Public Information (DPI) at the UN headquarter in New York last week, Ms, Jacqueline Murekatete,  a NY attorney, human rights activist and survivor of the Rwanda genocide discusses the achievements as well as significant shortcomings of the ICTR and Gacaca courts in post-genocide Rwanda. Murekatete calls for the reparation and meaningful support for survivors. ”Victims rights must be assured”, firmly stressed Murekatete.
Other speakers in the Symposium include H.E. Mr. Vandi Chidi Mina Permanent Representative of the Mission of Sierra Leone, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, UN Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, H.E.Mr. Johnston Busingye, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Rwanda and Mr. Hassan Boubacar Jallow, Prosecutor of the ICTR.
