Welcome to Justice4Survivors!

I started this blog in 2013—hard to believe it’s been over a decade! My goal has always been to amplify the voices of survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda, where over 1 million lives, including my parents, three sisters, and many other family members, were lost in a little over 100 days. After narrowly surviving this campaign of annihilation by extremist Hutus and their government, I kept wondering—and still do—what could be done to honor those we’ve lost. Telling their stories and fighting for justice seemed like a good place to start. This blog doesn’t shy away from calling out injustices and dictatorships that lead to mass atrocities, including emerging dictatorship at home. While it began as a call for reparations, it now covers broader issues affecting survivors—justice, memory, and personal stories. It’s a space for sharing uncensored experiences and perspectives to spark meaningful discussions and inspire change.

If you’re a survivor or a friend of survivors, please share your story—whether in writing, audio, or any language you prefer—by emailing justicesurvivors98@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
Al Gasake
